Julia and Patrick met at Baldwin Wallace University, so it was fitting that we documented their engagement where it all started. I second shot this engagement session with Crystal Kaye Photography, and even though it had been raining all week (you know, April showers and all that), we were fortunate enough to dance between the raindrops for an evening. Julia and Patrick studied music at Baldwin Wallace, so we spent quite a bit of time at the music building on campus. And let me tell you, stepping inside that music building was exactly what I hoped it would be like. In the lobby, you could hear student's tuning violins, someone singing opera, and I kid you not, half way through the session, about 2 dozen students filed out of the building and started an African drum circle. After exploring campus, we headed to a local park known as Coe Lake, where I think I would have spent most of my time if I was a student at Baldwin Wallace. Lots of trails to wonder down, benches made of driftwood overlooking the water, and of course, baby geese. Can't forget about the baby geese! I do have to say, though, I think Julia and Patrick's cuteness even outdid those little fuzzballs.
Guys! I had to throw it back because I wasn't blogging when I shot this wedding in 2016, but I felt the need to reminisce on this luxurious affair at the John S. Knight Center in Akron. I had the amazing opportunity to third shoot for Tunji Sarumi, a high-end wedding photographer from the Baltimore area, here in Akron. He is Nigerian and shoots many weddings for the Nigerian community. Tunji was so generous with his knowledge of both photography and the Nigerian culture, and it was fun to experience both of these blended together. From the traditional clothing (women from each branch of the two families wear different colors) to the food (spicy and garnished with purple orchids. Purple orchids, y'all!) to the DANCING. HOURS OF DANCING. Choreographed routines, bridal party dances, elder dances, traditional Nigerian dances. AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ABOUT THE DECORATIONS!!! Oh my gosh...Sorry, got a little carried away there. Let's just say for the next few weeks, I was gushing about this wedding and how I wanted to be Nigerian. Enjoy a taste of Nkeiruka and Lawrence's nuptials which was truly a feast for the senses.
